Tomara Graham-Mays joined Family Promise as the Executive Director of its North Central Palm Beach County affiliate. She has over 14 years of experience working in both the public and nonprofit sectors where her focus has been Self-sufficiency, Sustainability, and Breaking Barriers for Change. Mrs. Graham-Mays has a passion for working with vulnerable and hard to serve populations. She has led several programs that addresses the needs of children, youth, homelessness, disability, and offenders.
Recently, Mrs. Graham-Mays served Easterseals Florida as Associated Vice President of Programs. As Associate Vice President of Programs she oversaw all program operations for Easterseals Florida’s statewide Employment Services Division, its Adult Day Training Programs, Transportation, and Childcare Services for children and adults with disabilities. Previously, Mrs. Graham-Mays served as the South Florida Workforce Investment Board’s Youth Program Manager where she oversaw Miami-Dade and Monroe County’s Economic Development Programs for youth under the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and the United States Department of Labor funds. One of the highlights of her career as Youth Program Manager has been through strategic partnerships with Miami-Dade County, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Florida Department of Education, and the local ACRA Local 725 Joint Apprenticeship, this collaboration lead Mrs. Graham-Mays to start Florida’s first Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Program that led to creating career pathways for high school students in Miami-Dade County by leveraging state funding. This opportunity allowed a critical intersection between education and workforce development. Also, Mrs. Graham -Mays served as Senior Program Director for the YMCA of South Florida, where her leadership lead her to oversee more than twenty afterschool and summer programs to keep children healthy and safe, in partnership with the Children Services Council of Broward County and Broward County Public Schools In addition, Mrs. Graham-Mays has used her expertise while consulting many non-profits with strategic planning, grant writing, fundraising, budget management and streamlining processes for greater results to serve more people. Mrs. Graham-Mays’ passion and commitment to people and her respective communities allows her to give back to those who need her most. She is an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Omicron Delta Zeta Chapter in Delray Beach, Florida and serves as the Area IV (Palm Beach County) Get Engaged Social Action Coordinator. She is a member of Masud Court #71 West Palm Beach, Florida Imperial Court Daughters. Mrs. Graham-Mays is a member of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators South Florida Chapter and the Women of Color Empowerment Institute. She has been recognized for her leadership and contributions in the community and continues to be a vessel in raising awareness to many causes. Mrs. Graham-Mays sits on several boards in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County where she is able to help bring change and advocate for those who needs it. Mrs. Graham-Mays’ dedication to the social service field is in direct alignment with the Family Promise’s mission believing that every child deserves a home so that they can achieve a sustainable independence. Born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, Mrs. Graham-Mays credits her success to a strong commitment to her faith and the demonstration of a strong work ethic from her mother. Mrs. Graham-Mays believes her community needs her and that her leadership will bring hope and provide many the opportunities needed to strive in this economy. Mrs. Graham-Mays holds a Bachelors of Arts in Organizational Leadership, a Masters of Professional Studies in Executive Management, and is a Doctor of Education in Leadership and Innovation Candidate with an expected completion in December 2021 from St. Thomas University, Miami, Florida. Mrs. Graham-Mays points to her role as proud wife to Jack and loving mother to her son Jal’an her greatest accomplishment.
